Benzyl Chloride
Benzyl chloride or α-chlorotoluene, is an organic compound with the formula C7H7Cl. The colourless liquid is a reactive organochlorine compound that is an extensively used chemical building block. It has a pungent, distinctive odour and its vapour causes profuse watering of the eyes and nose. It is a highly insoluble compound in water. Benzyl chloride is used as a chemical intermediate in the manufacture of certain dyes and pharmaceutical products, plasticizer, flavorants, and perfumes as well as a photographic developer.
